Oak Park's Cecily Strong to Co-Anchor SNL's 'Weekend Update'

Oak Park native Cecily Strong named new co-anchor of SNL's "Weekend Update" with Seth Meyers.

After a year as a Saturday Night Live cast member, Oak Park native Cecily Strong will take on the role of co-anchor of the show's "Weekend Update," with Seth Meyers, The New York Times reports.

Strong could eventually become the segment's sole anchor in February, after Meyers begins his role as host of the Late Night show on NBC, SNL Creator Lorne Michaels told the TimesHe said Strong, from her first show, "exploded." 

The Oak Park native was one of three new cast members on SNL last season. She started getting a higher profile as, "the Girl You Wish You Hadn't Started a Conversation With at a Party."

Strong, who went to Oak Park and River Forest High School, the Chicago Academy for the Arts and Northwestern University grad, is a veteran Second City and iO performer.

Meyers tweeted to Strong to congratulate her on her new role, "Very excited about the new Weekend Update co-anchor, @cecilybecily!" 

She replied: "@sethmeyers lets hope I make it through the first show without barfing or fainting!"

The new season of SNL airs Saturday, Sept. 28 on NBC.
