12 Street Wings Opening Soon in Forest Park

The new wings restaurant and sports bar will feature grilled wings and unique sauces made from scratch.

Oak Park native Gerry Logan grew up cooking out with his father, who was a food service director for 40 years. And now he’s taking his love of barbecue to Forest Park, where he plans to open the new restaurant, 12 Street Wings.

“Every weekend of my teenage life we barbecued in the back room,” Logan said. “We just pulled a grill into the garage. I learned how to cook from him and developed a passion for food.”

The restaurant, located at 7247 W. Roosevelt Rd. in Forest Park, is slated to open in mid-October.

Logan’s business partner, Varun Goyal, owned and operated dozens of Dunkin Donuts franchises with his father for about 30 years, Logan said, and has a background in operations management. Since his father passed away, Goyal has been looking to get back into the restaurant business.

What sets 12 Street Wings apart from area competitors like Buffalo Wild Wings, Wingstop and Wing Boss is that the Forest Park restaurant will have grilled wings, Logan said.

They also have proprietary sauces made from scratch, and Logan said many of the sauces of have a Latin and Caribbean spin on them because his father is from Belize. There’s sauces such as the cilantro-lime, mango-habanero and “guacapeno,” a combination of avocado and jalapeno.

“Most places do deep-fried wings. We’re taking it to the next level,” he said. The menu will also feature burgers, chicken sandwiches and a line of “exotic fried desserts,” such as fried Snickers bites served with ice cream and chocolate sauce.

The name “12 Street Wings” references the old numeric scheme of naming streets in which Roosevelt was 12th Street.

That’s just another of the local touches at this wings restaurant, which Logan also hopes to make a go-to spot for sporting events. The restaurant will have the ESPN Sports TV package, 10-plus large flat-screens and a full bar.

Logan’s parents live in Forest Park now, and he’s got family in River Forest. For him, opening the restaurant locally was a no-brainer.

“I have the network of people who live there, all my friends I went to high school with,” he said. “I feel really comfortable around there.”

The restaurant’s website is still being developed, but you can like 12 Street Wings on Facebook for updates and more information.
