The babies are due this summer and fall. Look through the photo gallery of the expectant moms, including the most incredible ultrasound picture you'll ever see.
Just a little more than a week after Mother’s Day, the Brookfield Zoo announced Monday it has three new moms to be. Dolphins Allie, Tapeko and Spree are expected to give birth during the summer and fall, according to a zoo release. “Allie, Tapeko, and Spree are all healthy and their pregnancies are progressing well,” said Jennifer Langan, associate veterinarian for the Chicago Zoological Society. Like us on Facebook! Forest Park / La Grange / Oak Park / Western Springs Allie, 26, and Tapeko, 31, are experienced mothers, having raised five babies between them, including Tapeko’s two daughters, Noelani, 9, and Allison, 7, who also live at the zoo. This will be the first baby for Spree, 10, who is at the zoo from Minnesota as part of the …
The National Transportation Safety Board recommends reducing the limit. Some say it would save lives. Others say it's unreasonable.
One drink could be the standard for drunken drivingat least for some people if the National Transporation Safety Board has its way. On Tuesday, the NTSB recommended states lower the blood-alcohol threshold for driving under the influence from 0.08 percent to 0.05 percent. About 10,000 deaths a year are related to drunken driving. The NTSB says the lower limit would save 500 to 800 lives a year. Officials at the American Beverage Institute called the proposal "ludicrous." It said the average woman could reach the 0.05 percent limit by having one drink. We reached out to readers in our near-Chicago west-suburban sites and asked them: should the DUI limit be lowered to 0.05 percent? Here’s some of the responses we got: Lori Galandak-Anthony…

Monday is your last chance to share comments on IDOT's plan to ease congestion along Interstate 290.
Area residents have until Monday, May 20, to share their comments on an IDOT plan to ease congestion along Interstate 290. The Illinois Department of Transportation has four final alternatives to address this issue, all of which include adding a lane and moving the Harlem Avenue and Austin Boulevard ramps to the outside. State officials say no Oak Park property will be needed for the new ramps, but a Village of Oak Park news release said that some citizens have said the placement could have negative impacts. To learn more about the plans, go to the Eisenhower Expressway project website. The seven documents at the top of the page are the most relevant, especially the I-290 Alternatives Evaluation Summary 2013 Apr02. Residents can share …

Looking to see a movie? Here's the latest shows at Oak Park's Lake Theater, as well as other nearby theaters.
Looking to see a movie this weekend? If you're in the Oak Park area, check out Classic Cinemas' Lake Theater. Featuring a $6 matinee for shows before 6 p.m., a collection of movies that many national theater chains are playing and the old-timey experience of going to the movies, Lake Theater offers a lot to like. Playing This Weekend (May 16-19) Star Trek Into Darkness (PG-13) is the sequel in the new series of Star Trek films, with the crew meeting an "unstoppable force of terror" on the way home. The Great Gatsby (PG-13) stars Leonardo DiCaprio as the iconic millionaire partyboy in the roaring '20s. Reviews are pretty poor, but what I'm most interested in what people think about using director Baz Luhrmann's name as a verb, as in, "He…

It's been a long week. You need a pick-me-up.
Friday's here. Thank goodness. One more day of work, and that's it. Here's a little inspiration to get you through to Saturday. For more than a month now, Patch and Grape-Nuts have teamed up to present stories about your neighbors, neighbors who have faced challenges that would seem insurmountable to many of us. But not to the people we've featured in this series, Journeys. Not surprisingly, the stories have generated dozens of comments on Patch and on Facebook: "Great story..." "Thanks for sharing..." "So wonderfully inspiring..." And, so, here they are again. Great stories shared to inspire. Take a look at what these people have faced. Then click on the story to see their responses. And feel better about your tough week. Pit Bull …

The black cat has a white patch near her collar on her chest. She was last seen wearing a pink collar with tags.
A resident reported a cat missing this afternoon in the 900 block of Marengo Avenue in Forest Park. The black cat is about 2 years old and fluffy with medium to long fur. She's all black except for a white patch near her collar, which is pink and has tags. The cat, named Liz, is microchipped and is described as very friendly. If you see the cat or have any information, call Maria at 630-926-4327.
