Just a little more than a week after Mother’s Day, the Brookfield Zoo announced Monday it has three new moms to be. Dolphins Allie, Tapeko and Spree are expected to give birth during the summer and fall, according to a zoo release. “Allie, Tapeko, and Spree are all healthy and their pregnancies are progressing well,” said Jennifer Langan, associate veterinarian for the Chicago Zoological Society. The National Transportation Safety Board recommends reducing the limit. Some say it would save lives. Others say it's unreasonable.
One drink could be the standard for drunken drivingat least for some people if the National Transporation Safety Board has its way. On Tuesday, the NTSB recommended states lower the blood-alcohol threshold for driving under the influence from 0.08 percent to 0.05 percent. About 10,000 deaths a year are related to drunken driving. The NTSB says the lower limit would save 500 to 800 lives a year. Officials at the American Beverage Institute called the proposal "ludicrous." It said the average woman could reach the 0.05 percent limit by having one drink. Monday is your last chance to share comments on IDOT's plan to ease congestion along Interstate 290.
Area residents have until Monday, May 20, to share their comments on an IDOT plan to ease congestion along Interstate 290. The Illinois Department of Transportation has four final alternatives to address this issue, all of which include adding a lane and moving the Harlem Avenue and Austin Boulevard ramps to the outside. State officials say no Oak Park property will be needed for the new ramps, but a Village of Oak Park news release said that some citizens have said the placement could have negative impacts. The black cat has a white patch near her collar on her chest. She was last seen wearing a pink collar with tags.
A resident reported a cat missing this afternoon in the 900 block of Marengo Avenue in Forest Park. The black cat is about 2 years old and fluffy with medium to long fur. She's all black except for a white patch near her collar, which is pink and has tags. The cat, named Liz, is microchipped and is described as very friendly.
