They're back ... After snapping a streak of eight straight state titles last year, the Fenwick boys water polo team is a champion again.
The Fenwick boys water polo team is a champion once again. After a streak of eight straight Illinois titles and nine of 10 state wins was snapped last year in a loss to Lyons Township, the Friars captured the crown again Saturday. Fenwick defeated Stevenson 10-4 in the championship. According to IHSA.org, five Friars scored two goals each: Matt Bresnahan, Matt Farmer, Andrew Bertschy, Trevor McLean and Justin White. Watch a replay of the game on IHSA.tv. Stevenson took the early lead on a goal by Josh Weisberg, who scored one possession after a big save by goalie Rob O'Brien. The OPRF grad and New York Knick slammed home a put-back dunk in the playoffs against the Indiana Pacers.
Oak Park native Iman Shumpert got a fair amount of publicity his rookie season for his strong perimeter defense, and later for tearing his ACL in the first game of the playoffs, the same day Derrick Rose did. And though the Chicago Bulls' star is still on the bench, Shumpert has been playing since January and last week got even more publicity after slamming home what's likely the dunk of the playoffs. The Knicks' Chris Copeland missed a shot off the back of the rim, and no Pacers player went for the rebound. That opened a lane for Shumpert, who flew through the paint, caught the ball with one hand and threw down a big-time dunk. Check it out on YouTube in the video above. The Illinois High School Association approved new safety rules Wednesday to limit tackling in youth football practice in an effort to reduce head injuries, reported the Daily Herald. In March, a controversial bill sponsored by State Rep. Carol Sente (D-Vernon Hills) proposing to limit the number of days players could have full contact hitting practice (once a week) failed in the House committee. The new IHSA policy calls for coaches to gradually increase the time players can participate in preseason practice, along with the number of protective pads they can wear. On the seventh day of practice, players can participate in five hours of full contact drills wearing full pads, according to the IHSA. However, no single practice can exceed …

The competition was held this past weekend in Forest Park.
Jake Adams, a Hinsdale native, and Dylan Bartlett, of Forest Park, will be headed to sectionals in St. Charles after being named all-around champions at Forest Park's MLB Pitch, Hit and Run competition last weekend, according to the Forest Park Review. The Aquafina Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit and Run is a free competition for boys and girls ages 7 to 14 years old. Winners can ultimately advance to compete at the MLB All-Star Game, according to the Park District of Forest Park website. The Forest Park competition was held this past Saturday, May 4 on the park district's baseball/softball fields, according to the park district website.
