Suspect Charged in Berwyn Bank Robbery

Officials say the Chicago man allegedly entered the Berwyn bank as the manager unlocked the door for business Monday morning.

Police have charged a 29-year-old Chicago man suspected of robbing a Charter One Bank branch in Berwyn Monday morning, officials said Wednesday. 

According to a complaint filed in U.S. District Court, Valeriy Kouznetsov, 29, allegedly entered the bank, located at 6201 W. Cermak Rd., as the manager unlocked the doors to open the bank for business Monday morning. When he was inside, he told a teller he had a gun and demanded money, according to an FBI news release.

The teller recognized Kouznetsov as the same person who robbed the month just over a month ago, according to the release. He took cash and a dye pack from the teller, left the business and was quickly arrested.

Kouznetsov, charged with one count of Bank Robbery, will be held in federal custody until his next court appearance at 2 p.m. Friday. If convicted, he faces a possible sentence of up to 20 years in prison, officials said.
